The Toronto Blue Jays, the only American League baseball team in Canada, came into the league as an expansion team in 1977. The club struggled early in its history, as many expansion teams do, but eventually found success in the ‘90s, winning the World Series in 1992 and 1993.
Shortly after the move from Exhibition Stadium to the SkyDome in 1989, the Blue Jays built a team around outfielder Joe Carter, second baseman Roberto Alomar, designated hitter Dave Winfield, and center fielder Devon White. The Jack Morris led pitching staff won the clubs second straight AL East title and beat the Oakland A's in the AL Championship Series. The Blue Jays met the Atlanta Braves in the World Series and came away with the win. The Blue Jays catcher, Pat Borders, was the MVP of the series, batting a surprising .450 and hitting a crucial home run.
The second World Series would find Winfield and replaced by Paul Molitor and the addition of Dave Stewart to the pitching rotation. The Blue Jays featured an excellent hitting offense, with the three top hitters in the American League playing on the team that year. First baseman John Olerud won the batting title, but was followed by teammates Molitor and Alomar.
The Blue Jays continued to be a good baseball team after the two World Series, but would slowly fall out of contention every year and the club eventually began rebuilding. Get your Toronto Blue Jays tickets at WWW.TICKETS.CA
