The Sabres joined the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference, 1970, alongside the Vancouver Canucks. The Sabres were the first to sign Gilbert Perreault, the legendary Hockey Hall of Fame center. Perreault broke a record by scoring 38 goals in his rookie year, and winning the Calder Memorial Trophey. He was then joined by Rick Martin, who again broke the record for most goals scored by a rookie with 44 goals. Danny Gare was also signed to the team, completing the Sabres “French Connection”. While the Sabres have not yet won a Stanley Cup, their team has won many other awards, such as the Presidents Trophy, and Coaches Awards.
The current team roster is: Ryan Miller, Jocelyn Thibault, Toni Lydman, Jaroslav Spacek, Henrik Tallinder, Nathan Paetsch, Dmitri Kalinin, Brian Campbell, Derek Roy, Ales Kotalik, Tim Connolly, Daniel Paille, Drew Stafford, Adam Mair, Thomas Vanek, Paul Gaustad, Jason Pominville, Michael Ryan, Jochen Hecht, Maxim Afinogenov, and Andrew Peters. The Sabres have been able to keep a loyal fanbase by offering some of the lowest ticket prices in the franchise.
