A Winged Victory for the Sullen is coming near you with a body of work at the intersection of ambient music, contemporary classical music and composition for the performing arts.
The project brings together composers Adam Wiltzie and Dustin O'Halloran, longtime collaborators who formed the duo in 2011. Wiltzie is also known for his work with Stars of the Lid, while O'Halloran has a parallel career as a composer and pianist.
Since its self-titled 2011 debut, A Winged Victory for the Sullen has released four full-length albums and several EPs. Its discography includes Atomos, The Undivided Five and Invisible Cities, as well as All Our Friends Are Vampires and Only The Names Of The Airport Changes. In 2013, the duo composed the score for Atomos, a dance work by Wayne McGregor. Released in 2021, Invisible Cities is the score for a theatre production directed by Leo Warner and loosely inspired by an Italo Calvino novel. Through commissions and recordings, A Winged Victory for the Sullen continues to hold a distinctive place in contemporary instrumental music.
