Abozekry Project is coming near you with the musical world of Mohamed Abozekry, a Franco Egyptian oud player and musician born in Cairo.
A recognized figure in contemporary oud music, he won first prize at the International Oud Competition in Damascus in 2009. Since then, he has developed a body of work that connects Arabic musical traditions with influences from jazz, classical music and world music. His writing places the oud at the centre of an open approach shaped by rhythm, composition and improvisation.
Mohamed Abozekry has founded several ensembles, including Heejaz, formed in 2010, as well as the Mohamed Abozekry Sextet. Through Heejaz, he has worked with guitarist Guillaume Hogan, percussionist Anne Laure Bourget and double bassist Hugo Reydet. His discography includes Chaos, released in 2013, Ring Road in 2015 and Karkadé in 2016. The eight track Karkadé album was released through the JazzVillage label. In 2024, he released Roh El Fouad, followed by the singles Mesh Hekaya and Teaddi Layalina.
