Adrian Younge is coming to a venue near you with a distinctive musical vision that blends psychedelic soul, jazz, funk, hip-hop, and cinematic composition. A composer, producer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist from Los Angeles, Adrian Younge has earned international recognition for his commitment to fully analog recording techniques and his ability to capture the sound of late 1960s and early 1970s music while creating original contemporary works. A self-taught musician, he evolved from hip-hop beat making into mastering numerous instruments before gaining widespread attention with his acclaimed score for the 2009 film Black Dynamite. Since then, he has become one of the most respected creative voices in modern soul and jazz through his solo recordings, production work, and collaborative projects.
His acclaimed catalogue includes Something About April, Something About April II, The American Negro, and Something About April III. Younge also produced Adrian Younge Presents the Delfonics with William Hart and collaborated with Ghostface Killah on the celebrated concept albums Twelve Reasons to Die and Twelve Reasons to Die II. Alongside Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest, he co-founded the Jazz Is Dead label and recording series, bringing together legendary artists including Roy Ayers, Marcos Valle, Gary Bartz, João Donato, Azymuth, and many others. The pair also composed the scores for Marvel's Luke Cage television series and several additional film and television productions.
Beyond recording and producing, Adrian Younge operates Linear Labs in Los Angeles, where he continues to champion analog recording and orchestral production. His music is known for lush string arrangements, vintage instrumentation, cinematic textures, and a deep appreciation for the legacy of Black American music. His 2021 concept album The American Negro, accompanied by a podcast and short film, examines the history and ongoing impact of systemic racism in the United States, demonstrating the social consciousness that informs much of his work. Through his innovative productions, influential collaborations, and dedication to preserving classic recording traditions, Adrian Younge continues to shape contemporary jazz, soul, and cinematic music.
