Afrodeutsche is coming near you with a career that brings together electronic music, contemporary composition and DJing.
Behind the name is Henrietta Smith-Rolla, an English composer, producer and DJ based in Manchester. Of Ghanaian, Russian and German heritage, she created the Afrodeutsche project in 2016 following a personal search into her family roots. Her work draws from Detroit electro, techno, house and film music while maintaining a highly personal approach to composition.
Afrodeutsche began making electronic music in 2007. Her debut album, Break Before Make, arrived in 2018 through Manchester label Skam Records. The following year, she released the RR001 EP, the first release on River Rapid, a label founded by Scottish DJ Eclair Fifi. Her discography also includes the score for Kamali, a BAFTA nominated short film that was released as an album in 2020. In 2021, she composed for the London Contemporary Orchestra and Voces8, and one of her compositions was presented with the BBC Concert Orchestra.
Afrodeutsche also hosts the Black Forest radio show on NTS and became a regular presenter on BBC Radio 6 Music. Discover Afrodeutsche and buy your tickets now on Tickets.ca.
