All Hands Make Light

All Hands Make Light is coming to a venue near you with a musical project that brings together two acclaimed figures from Canada’s independent music scene. The duo was formed by singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Ariel Engle, also known through her solo project La Force, and composer, producer, and musician Efrim Menuck, a founding member of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra. Created as a collaborative exploration of new sonic possibilities, All Hands Make Light combines vocals, synthesizers, acoustic instrumentation, and atmospheric textures into a sound that draws from ambient music, post-rock, electronic music, and experimental traditions.

The project quickly gained recognition for its distinctive artistic identity and the creative chemistry between its two members. In 2024, All Hands Make Light released its debut album, Darling the Dawn, through Constellation Records. The album received positive attention from music critics for its immersive compositions, layered vocal arrangements, and thoughtful blend of contemporary and experimental influences. The recording highlights Ariel Engle’s expressive songwriting and vocal work alongside Efrim Menuck’s detailed arrangements and production approach, bringing together the strengths of two artists with significant contributions to Canadian independent music.

The significance of All Hands Make Light extends beyond its debut release. The project reflects the spirit of artistic innovation that has long defined Montreal’s music community while establishing a creative identity of its own.
