Andrea Peña & Artists is coming to a venue near you with an artistic vision that has established the company as an important voice in Canadian and international contemporary dance. Founded in Montreal in 2014 by Colombian Canadian choreographer and designer Andrea Peña, the company creates interdisciplinary works that combine choreography, design, architecture, visual arts, and conceptual research. Its practice explores the relationships between the body, space, materials, and the systems that shape how people experience the contemporary world.
A graduate of Concordia University in design, Andrea Peña has developed a distinctive choreographic language rooted in questions of identity, memory, collectivity, and immersive environments. Her creative approach brings dance into dialogue with installations, objects, and architectural structures, expanding the possibilities of contemporary performance and interdisciplinary artistic practice.
Andrea Peña & Artists has created a significant body of work that includes VIUN, KAIROS, ZERO UNO UNO ZERO, Untitled I, Untitled I + III, 6.58: MANIFESTO, BOGOTÁ, UAQUE, and REPLICA. The company's creations have been presented by leading festivals and cultural institutions across Canada and internationally, including the Venice Biennale, Tanzmesse, Canada's National Arts Centre, the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Hong Kong International Choreography Festival. Andrea Peña has received several prestigious honours, including the Clifford E. Lee Choreography Award from the Banff Centre and the Best Choreography Award at the Hong Kong International Choreography Festival. Her work BOGOTÁ was also selected as the first international dance co production of the Venice Biennale, reflecting the growing global recognition of her artistic practice.
Through an innovative approach that connects choreography, design, and interdisciplinary research, Andrea Peña & Artists continues to contribute to the evolution of contemporary dance while strengthening Canada's presence within the international cultural community.
