Aszure Barton

Aszure Barton is a dynamic, international dance collective founded by the visionary Canadian choreographer Aszure Barton.

The group is celebrated for its category-defying contemporary dance that is intensely visceral, highly rhythmic and deeply human. Barton's choreography is often described as watching the physical unfurling of the human psyche, where movement is transformed into raw agents of humor, torment and emotional chaos. Her work, which resists easy categorization, fuses contemporary forms with elements of breaking, voguing and classical ballet.

Barton has created acclaimed works for major institutions globally, including the National Ballet of Canada and American Ballet Theatre. Her collaborations with artists like jazz trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire, notably on 'A a | a B : B E N D', are masterclasses in interdisciplinary dialogue.
