Bébé d'Hull

Bébé d'Hull returns audiences to the jazz and cabaret world of Hull in 1951 in a musical created by Théâtre Dérives Urbaines.

The story begins on August 5, 1951, after Standish Hall, one of the city's most popular clubs, is destroyed by fire. Suspicion falls on Bébé d'Hull, a young singer determined to conquer this jazz city. Blending an investigation, local references, and fictional characters, the production offers a theatrical view of an era when Hull was a musical hub.

Mathieu Charette wrote the text and song lyrics and directs the production. He also shares artistic direction with Catherine Rousseau, while Martin Dawagne and Mathieu Charette composed the music. Mylène Ménard created the set and costumes, and Richard Houde designed the lighting. The cast features Charlotte Baus, Marc-André Charette, Maxim David, Sasha Dominique, and Andrée Rainville. Created by a Gatineau company that has highlighted Outaouais heritage through theatrical works for nearly 40 years, Bébé d'Hull returns to Théâtre de l'Île in 2026 after its initial presentation the previous year. This French-language musical brings together local history, mystery, and original songs in a tribute to the imagination of the 1950s.
