Benoît et Colin is coming to a city near you as a Canadian traditional music duo dedicated to the performance of Quebec folk repertoire. The group brings together two experienced musicians, recorder player Benoît Fortier and guitarist Colin Savoie-Levac, both active figures in the Quebec traditional and folk music scene. Their collaboration focuses on interpreting traditional Quebecois music with a stripped down acoustic approach that highlights melody, rhythm, and the historical depth of the repertoire.
Their self titled debut album, released in 2021, is entirely devoted to traditional Quebec folk tunes performed on recorder and guitar or banjo. The recording features a selection of traditional airs and reels presented in a minimal duo format, emphasizing spontaneity and musical interaction. The album is notable for placing the recorder at the forefront of a repertoire more commonly associated with fiddle or accordion traditions. Guest musicians appear on selected tracks, adding harmonica, violin, and vocal textures while maintaining an overall acoustic and intimate sound. The project reflects a commitment to preserving and reinterpreting oral musical traditions from Quebec.
With their focus on traditional repertoire and acoustic interpretation, Benoît et Colin play an important role in the contemporary Quebec folk scene. Their work highlights the continued relevance of traditional music and its ability to evolve through thoughtful and respectful reinterpretation. Get your tickets now at Tickets.ca.
