Blood Orange is the musical project of British artist Devonté Hynes, a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer known for his emotionally rich and genre-blending sound. Before launching Blood Orange in 2011, Hynes was part of Test Icicles and later recorded as Lightspeed Champion. As Blood Orange, he’s crafted a unique style that mixes alternative R&B, soul, funk, jazz, indie pop, and new wave influences.
Critically acclaimed albums like Cupid Deluxe, Freetown Sound, and Negro Swan explore complex themes such as queer identity, race, vulnerability, and personal healing. In addition to his solo work, Hynes is a sought-after collaborator, having worked with artists like Solange, A$AP Rocky, Mariah Carey, FKA twigs, and Carly Rae Jepsen, further cementing his impact on the international music scene.
