Formed in Speyer, Germany, in 1986, the band is widely recognized as one of the pioneers of the German grindcore scene. Blood originally emerged as a noisecore project before developing a more structured blend of death metal and grindcore, a progression that established the group as an influential name in extreme metal.

Following a series of demos released between 1986 and 1989, Blood issued its debut full length album, Impulse to Destroy, in 1989. The band continued to expand its catalogue with albums including Christbait in 1992, O Agios Pethane in 1993, Mental Conflicts in 1994, Depraved Goddess in 1996, Gas, Flames, Bones in 1999, Dysangelium in 2003 and Inferno in 2017. Alongside these records, Blood has released numerous EPs, split releases and compilations that reflect its long standing contribution to extreme music.

Throughout nearly four decades, Blood has maintained its reputation through a lineup featuring long time members including Eisen on guitar, Taki on bass, Ventilator on drums and Martin "Chicken" on vocals during key periods. The band has also shared bills with influential acts such as Dismember, Gorefest, Vader, Samael, Atrocity and Extreme Noise Terror.
