Chad Valley is coming to a city near you with a signature blend of synthpop, chillwave and electronic pop inspired by the sounds of the 1980s. Chad Valley is the solo project of Oxford, England singer-songwriter Hugo Manuel, who first gained recognition as the frontman of the indie pop band Jonquil. He launched the project in 2010 to explore a more personal musical direction, and early songs including Up & Down and Acker Bilk quickly attracted attention from publications such as Pitchfork, Vice and The Guardian for their dreamy melodies, shimmering synthesizers and R&B influenced production.
Following the release of his self-titled debut EP in 2010 and Equatorial Ultravox in 2011, Chad Valley released his first full-length album, Young Hunger, in 2012. The album featured collaborations with artists including Twin Shadow, Glasser, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Active Child. He followed with the more introspective Entirely New Blue in 2015, produced alongside Joel Ford. In 2018, after his laptop containing recordings for a new album was stolen during a tour, Manuel started over from scratch and released Imaginary Music, featuring songs such as Up Again, LA in August, ABC and Impartial.
Through his solo work and his contributions to Jonquil, Chad Valley has become a respected name in Britain's independent electronic music scene. His combination of nostalgic synthpop, thoughtful songwriting and polished production has earned him a dedicated following among fans of modern indie electronic music and helped establish his lasting influence within the genre.
