Chassepareil is coming to a city near you with a distinctive blend of indie folk, rich vocal harmonies and poetic songwriting inspired by the landscapes of Quebec's Saguenay region. Formed in Saguenay, Quebec, the quartet consists of Johannie Tremblay, Alexandrine Rodrigue, Pierre-Antoine Tanguay and Pascal Gagnon-Gilbert. The group's sound combines flute arrangements, acoustic instrumentation and layered vocals, drawing inspiration from 1970s folk while incorporating modern indie influences.
Chassepareil released its debut album, Les oiseaux d'hiver, in 2016, introducing listeners to its chamber folk style and lyrical songwriting. The band's second full-length album, Chicout, followed in 2020 and was produced by Guillaume Guilbault. The record expanded the group's musical palette with subtle pop textures and synthesizers while preserving the intimate arrangements and expressive harmonies that define its identity. Notable songs include L'oiseau sur la montagne, Feu de forêt, Vigiles, Saint-Laurent, Après-midi and Élégie. In 2022, the band also released a radio edit of L'oiseau sur la montagne.
Over the years, Chassepareil has established itself as a respected presence in Quebec's independent folk scene. The group's thoughtful compositions, atmospheric arrangements and strong connection to its regional roots have earned it recognition among listeners who appreciate contemporary French-language folk music with timeless melodies and carefully crafted songwriting.
