Club sandwich mayonnaise

Club sandwich mayonnaise is a compelling documentary theatre work that immerses the audience in a necessary reflection on our collective relationship with the end of life. Inspired by the intimate journey of Manuelle Légaré, who accompanied her father during his final moments through medical assistance in dying, the play unfolds as both a personal narrative and a sociological investigation. Directed by François Bernier and featuring a powerful cast including Manuelle Légaré, Sylvie De Morais-Nogueira, Alice Pascual, and Martin-David Peters, the production explores the human and ethical challenges surrounding this profound choice with rare sensitivity.

The stage experience is defined by an evocative set design, where a peripheral corridor circles the playing area, reminiscent of both clinical spaces and the thresholds between life and the beyond. This physical layout creates an immersive atmosphere where the actors’ performances blend with the author’s direct narration, breaking the fourth wall to draw the audience into this dizzying inquiry. Balancing touches of humour, documentary rigour, and raw emotion, the direction brings a steady, poignant rhythm to this meditation on human dignity.

This bold production refuses to follow the beaten path, daring to challenge the consensus surrounding the transition toward death. By pairing the authenticity of lived experience with a deep investigation into values and cultural legacies, the work transforms a private experience into a powerful public dialogue. It is a rare invitation to confront our certainties and collectively process the existential questions that define us, all while honouring the complexity of every individual life story.
