Constellation de cordes brings together four artists for a dialogue between Baroque music and folk traditions from Rwanda, Iran, and the Maritimes.
The project draws on sounds inspired by the 17th century while leaving room for improvisation and repertories passed down through generations. Deo Munyakazi contributes voice and the inanga, a Rwandan zither. Singer and violinist Janelle Lucyk brings Scottish and Irish tunes from the Maritime traditional repertoire. Kerry Bursey plays lute and theorbo, while Reza Abaee plays the gheychak fiddle.
Constellation de cordes places Rwandan songs, Baroque melodies, Celtic traditions, and Persian textures in an ever-evolving body of music. The ensemble is associated with the Centre des musiciens du monde and took part in the Le CAM en tournée series in 2024 and 2025. Its repertoire includes traditional pieces such as Isoko Dusangiye, Nari ntegereje amahoro, Urakwiriye Mwami, À la claire fontaine, and Comrades, alongside Claudio Monteverdi's Si dolce è'l tormento and Henry Purcell's Music for a While. This meeting of voices, strings, and musical histories creates a bridge across eras and places, with close attention to rare instruments and living traditions.
