Damoizeaux

Damoizeaux is coming to a city near you with a musical style that reimagines gypsy jazz through the addition of pop, jazz and French language songwriting. Formed in Quebec in 2020 from the long running group Trio BBQ, the ensemble features Katerine Desrochers, Mathieu Beaudet, Jean-Michel Bérubé, Véronique Boucher and Blanche Baillargeon. The musicians had already spent more than a decade collaborating and touring together, including performances across Europe, before launching Damoizeaux as a new creative project. Inspired by Django Reinhardt and the gypsy jazz of the 1930s, the group combines vintage influences with cinematic arrangements and poetic songwriting.

The band's debut album, En plume, was released in September 2020 following the singles En plume, Murmurations and Dernière danse. The album received critical acclaim and earned a nomination at the 2021 GAMIQ Awards in the Jazz Album or EP category. In 2022, Damoizeaux released La liste de Noël, a holiday album featuring both classic seasonal songs and original compositions, including Il y a nous, which received radio airplay across Quebec.

Throughout its career, Damoizeaux has appeared at major professional showcases including RIDEAU, ROSEQ and FrancoFête en Acadie while continuing to expand its original repertoire. Songs such as Cour des grands, Chez la Libanaise, Grande Bleue, Soldat de plomb and Le géographe et l’astronaute highlight the group's distinctive blend of gypsy jazz, pop and French language songwriting.
