Death Angel is coming to a city near you with a career that has made the band one of the defining names of the San Francisco Bay Area thrash metal movement. Formed in San Francisco in 1982, the band was founded by cousins Rob Cavestany, Dennis Pepa, Gus Pepa and Andy Galeon, with vocalist Mark Osegueda joining soon afterward. Despite the members' young age, Death Angel quickly earned recognition for its technical musicianship and aggressive approach to thrash metal. The band became part of the influential Bay Area scene alongside groups such as Metallica, Exodus and Testament, helping shape the evolution of the genre during the 1980s.
Death Angel released its debut album, The Ultra-Violence, in 1987, followed by Frolic Through the Park in 1988 and Act III in 1990. Songs including Seemingly Endless Time, Bored and A Room with a View introduced the band to a broader audience. Following a 1991 breakup after drummer Andy Galeon was seriously injured in a tour bus accident, the band reunited in 2001 and released a series of acclaimed albums including The Art of Dying, Killing Season, Relentless Retribution, The Dream Calls for Blood, The Evil Divide and Humanicide. The title track from Humanicide earned the band's first Grammy Award nomination for Best Metal Performance in 2020.
Across more than four decades, Death Angel has remained one of the most respected names in thrash metal, consistently evolving while staying true to its musical roots. Through its influential recordings, acclaimed albums and lasting contribution to American heavy metal, Death Angel continues to hold an important place in the history of the genre.
