Devils Brigade is coming to a venue near you with a musical project that brings together some of the most influential names in American punk rock. Formed in 2000 by Rancid bassist Matt Freeman, Devils Brigade was created as a side project that allowed Freeman to step into the role of lead vocalist while performing on upright bass. The band developed a distinctive sound that blends punk rock, psychobilly, rockabilly, and roots music, setting it apart from Freeman's work with Rancid.
The original lineup featured Matt Freeman alongside fellow Rancid members Tim Armstrong on guitar and Brett Reed on drums. Later, X drummer DJ Bonebrake joined the group for the recording of its debut album. Before releasing a full length record, Devils Brigade issued several singles, including Stalingrad, Psychos All Around Me, and Vampire Girl, helping establish the band's reputation among punk and psychobilly audiences.
In 2010, Devils Brigade released its self titled debut album through Hellcat Records. Produced by Tim Armstrong and Ryan Foltz, the album features songs such as Darlene, Bridge of Gold, Gentleman of the Road, Ride Harley, and Shakedown. Originally conceived as a concept project inspired by the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge, the record ultimately evolved into a collection of original songs that combines punk energy with upright bass, country influences, and rockabilly inspired arrangements.
