Cyrano (Adaptation et mise en scène René Richard Cyr)

Cyrano is coming near you in a new adaptation written and directed by René Richard Cyr.

Inspired by Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac, this Théâtre du Rideau Vert production revisits one of the most famous characters in French drama. Fans of enduring classics will recognize a story shaped by love, courage, language and carefully hidden wounds.

Christian loves Roxane, but Roxane loves Christian. Standing between them is Cyrano, a brilliant poet who lends his words to the younger man while concealing his own feelings. Their secret arrangement creates a romance built on a fragile illusion, where even extraordinary eloquence cannot protect the characters from the consequences of their choices.

Benoit McGinnis portrays Cyrano after taking on major roles including Hamlet, Nero and Caligula. Charlotte Aubin and Justin Simon join him, alongside a cast that includes Alexis Martin, Mireille Naggar, Zoé Ntumba, Madani Tall and Ismaïl Zourhlal. The production also reunites McGinnis with René Richard Cyr, his collaborator for 25 years. For followers of Quebec theatre, this adaptation offers a fresh perspective on an iconic hero whose wit and unmistakable panache conceal profound vulnerability, unspoken desire and enduring hope.
