Georges tells the story of an Egyptian father trying to understand the choices of his children, who were born in Quebec.
As he watches them grow from childhood into adulthood, he encounters a generation shaped by a society more open and less conformist than the one that formed his values.
Upright, conservative and attached to tradition, Georges is also loving, funny and human. Despite his missteps, he tries to preserve his relationship with his children as they move away from parts of their inheritance. Fragments of family life reveal the tensions, compromises and gestures of affection connecting them through change.
Written by Nathalie Doummar, the play draws inspiration from her family history. It examines rebuilding life after a separation, the complexity of paternal love and the possibility of reconciliation between tradition and modernity. The story also highlights challenges experienced by second-generation children of immigrants.
Doummar has written more than ten plays, including Coco, Sissi, Mama and Frères. Georges is directed by Rose-Anne Déry and features Nathalie Doummar, Neil Elias and Manuel Tadros, alternating with Antoine Yared. For fans of Quebec theatre, the play offers a portrait of family, identity and belonging.
