GZA

GZA is coming to a city near you… A founding member of the influential New York hip hop collective Wu-Tang Clan, GZA, also known as The Genius, emerged in the early 1990s from Staten Island alongside the group that helped redefine rap music. Wu-Tang Clan’s debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) (1993) is widely regarded as a landmark release in hip hop history, and GZA quickly stood out for his calm delivery, complex wordplay and intellectually driven lyrics.

As a solo artist, GZA released Words from the Genius in 1991 before gaining critical acclaim with Liquid Swords in 1995, an album frequently ranked among the greatest hip hop records ever made. Largely produced by RZA, the project is known for its cinematic storytelling and dense lyrical imagery. He continued his solo catalog with Beneath the Surface (1999), Legend of the Liquid Sword (2002), and Grandmasters (2005), a collaboration with DJ Muggs inspired by chess strategy and intellectual competition. He later released Pro Tools in 2008 and expanded into science themed concepts with projects such as Dark Matter (2015), which connects hip hop lyricism with scientific ideas.

Recognized for his precise writing and cerebral approach to rap, GZA remains one of the most respected lyricists in hip hop culture.
