Jardin invites audiences to rediscover the living world through a modern fable written by Evelyne de la Chenelière and directed by Daniel Brière.
Produced by Nouveau Théâtre Expérimental, the creation transforms Espace Libre into an indoor garden containing approximately 1,700 perennial plants and species native to Quebec.
At the centre of the story, Adam and Eve, portrayed by Lyndz Dantiste and Christine Beaulieu, are expelled from the original paradise and reappear in Montreal’s Centre-Sud neighbourhood. They fall in love, build a life together, and observe a quiet gardener played by Peter Trosztmer. Gradually, the mysterious presence of the plant world unsettles their fragile existence and challenges what they believe they understand.
Jardin stands out for its tender, irreverent humour, poetic writing, and thoughtful exploration of the connections between people, their environment, and their community. Inspired by regenerative design, the project plans to redistribute its native plants to neighbourhood residents, giving its ecological commitments a lasting and tangible dimension.
Fans of Quebec theatre will recognize the creative freedom of NTE and the perceptive voice of Evelyne de la Chenelière in a work rooted in nature, renewal, and belonging.
