La version qui n'intéresse personne is coming to a venue near you with a stage adaptation of Emmanuelle Pierrot's award-winning novel, one of the most acclaimed works of recent Quebec literature. Adapted by Marie-Claude St-Laurent and directed by Marie-Ève Milot, the production is a collaboration between Théâtre du Trident, Centre du Théâtre d'Aujourd'hui, Théâtre de l'Affamée, and Théâtre de l'Œil. The story follows Sacha and her best friend Tom as they leave Montreal at the age of eighteen for Dawson City, Yukon, hoping to find a community where they can live freely. Their dream gradually unravels as rumours, shifting power dynamics, and social violence transform what once felt like a refuge into a place of judgment and exclusion.
Through Sacha's perspective, the play examines memory, consent, psychological violence, collective behaviour, and the struggle to reclaim one's own story. It explores how communities can reshape the truth through gossip, silence, and shared narratives while giving voice to someone determined not to disappear beneath other people's version of events. Remaining faithful to the spirit of the novel, the adaptation combines sharp writing with moments of humour, vulnerability, and emotional intensity.
The production also incorporates Théâtre de l'Œil's expertise in puppetry to portray the many characters and the expansive Yukon landscape, adding a distinctive theatrical dimension to the storytelling. Emmanuelle Pierrot's novel received the 2024 Prix des libraires du Québec and the Prix littéraire des collégien·nes, while also being shortlisted for the France-Québec Literary Prize, underscoring its significance within contemporary Quebec literature.
With its powerful adaptation, compelling storytelling, and timely exploration of truth, power, and belonging, La version qui n'intéresse personne stands out as an important work of contemporary Quebec theatre. Get your tickets now at Tickets.ca.
