Les Justes is a feminist adaptation of Albert Camus' classic, adapted by Lauriane Charbonneau and directed by Auréliane Macé.
The creation shifts the questions of the play into a world where half-man, half-pig creatures rise to power. A small group of revolutionaries then considers killing one man in order to propel the revolution. This premise foregrounds questions of militant action, the limits of political violence, and responsibility toward innocent victims.
Camus' original Les Justes is a five-act play published in 1949. Inspired by historical events in Russia in 1905, it follows revolutionaries facing an attack on Grand Duke Serge and the dilemma of whether to sacrifice children. Camus also drew on Boris Savinkov's memoirs. Lauriane Charbonneau's adaptation takes up this moral question within a feminist and contemporary perspective. It is presented by Premier Acte in Quebec City from March 23 to April 10, 2027, as part of a season devoted to engaged plays, hybrid forms, and emerging voices. Les Justes examines the means used in the name of a cause and the human cost of revolutionary choices.
