Luna is coming near you as part of POP Montreal 2026, carrying the legacy of a defining New York indie rock band.
Formed in 1991 by Dean Wareham after the breakup of Galaxie 500, the group developed a sound at the intersection of indie rock, dream pop, and pop. Its catalogue is shaped by the guitars of Wareham and Sean Eden, the bass and vocals of Britta Phillips, and the drums of Lee Wall. Luna has become known for melodic songwriting, precise guitar arrangements, and an elegant, offbeat approach.
The debut album Lunapark arrived in 1992, followed by Bewitched in 1994 and Penthouse in 1995. These records established enduring songs including Chinatown, 23 Minutes in Brussels, Tiger Lily, and California (All the Way). Luna later released Pup Tent, The Days of Our Nights, Romantica, and Rendezvous before disbanding in 2005. Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips then continued their collaboration as Dean & Britta. The band reunited in 2015 and released the covers album A Sentimental Education and the instrumental EP A Place of Greater Safety in 2017. Luna appears with guests at the Theatre Rialto, in the Exclaim! Room, on September 23, 2026.
