Mrs. Doubtfire the Musical is coming near you with a theatrical adaptation inspired by the Twentieth Century Studios film.
The story follows Daniel Hillard, an out-of-work actor who loses custody of his children after a difficult divorce and creates the alter ego of Euphegenia Doubtfire. Disguised as a Scottish nanny, Daniel tries to remain part of his children’s lives. The transformation also leads him to reconsider what it means to be a father.
The book for Mrs. Doubtfire is by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell. Music and lyrics are by Wayne Kirkpatrick and Karey Kirkpatrick, while Ethan Popp provides musical supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations. The original direction is by Jerry Zaks and the choreography is by Lorin Latarro. The work brings iconic moments from the film into a musical comedy and adds original songs to this family story. It also extends the legacy of Mrs. Doubtfire, the character played by Robin Williams in the 1993 feature film, itself adapted from Anne Fine’s novel Alias Madame Doubtfire. Balancing humour, family, and self-reflection, this musical tells the story of a father determined to preserve his connection with his children.
