Panorama historique de la dramaturgie franco-canadienne

Panorama historique de la dramaturgie franco-canadienne is a talk devoted to the history of Franco-Ontarian theatre creation.

Led by Alexandre Cadieux, it explores this dramatic tradition through its major themes, notable figures, forms, and languages. The selected works serve as reference points for examining social, cultural, and political issues, as well as the challenges specific to French-language theatre creation in a minority setting. Performers Karine Ricard and Ziad Ek accompany the speaker in this exploration.

The program draws on excerpts from landmark texts including La Sagouine by Antonine Maillet, Le Malade imaginaire after Molière by André Paiement, Je m’en vais à Régina by Roger Auger, La parole et la loi by La Corvée, Strip by Catherine Caron, Brigitte Haentjens, and Sylvie Trudel, and Le chien by Jean-Marc Dalpé. It also includes La litière by Louis-Patrick Leroux, Laurie ou La vie de galerie by Herménégilde Chiasson, Maïta by Esther Beauchemin, and Rendez-vous lakay by Djennie Laguerre. Alexandre Cadieux has taught at UQAM and the University of Ottawa, worked as a theatre critic for Le Devoir and JEU magazine, and served as head of the documentation centre at the CEAD.
