Professor Brian Cox is coming near you with a career that connects particle physics research and public science communication.
He is Professor of Particle Physics at the University of Manchester and The Royal Society Professor for Public Engagement in Science. His research includes the study of diffractive scattering and his membership in the ATLAS Collaboration at CERN's Large Hadron Collider. His work also addresses the fundamental structure of matter.
Cox has also worked on the H1 experiment at DESY in Hamburg and the D0 experiment at Fermilab in Chicago. From 2004 to 2009, he was co-spokesperson for CERN's FP420 research project. He became one of Britain's best-known scientific voices through BBC documentaries about astronomy, cosmology and physics. He has co-written The Quantum Universe and Why Does E=mc²? with physicist Jeff Forshaw. Elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2016, Brian Cox received an OBE for services to science in 2010 and the Royal Society Michael Faraday Prize in 2012. Professor Brian Cox continues to make complex scientific questions accessible to broad audiences through research, broadcasting and writing.
