Reuben and the Dark

Reuben and the Dark are coming near you with a Canadian indie folk catalogue led by singer and songwriter Reuben Bullock.

Born in Calgary and now based in Victoria, Bullock has guided the project for more than a decade through songwriting built around expansive melodies and atmospheric arrangements. The group signed with Arts & Crafts in 2013 and has released four full length albums under the Reuben and the Dark name.

Funeral Sky, released in 2014, marked the band's recorded debut. It was followed by Arms of a Dream in 2018, un love in 2019 and In Lieu of Light in 2022. Key songs from this discography include Black Water, Heart in Two, Hold Me Like A Fire, Dancer and Faultline. Black Water was used in the trailer for El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, while the band's official site also lists the new single Bird Over Sea.

Reuben and the Dark have received nominations for the Juno Awards, Western Canadian Music Awards and SOCAN Songwriting Prize. Their collaboration with Bullhorn Singers, a Kainai Blackfoot powwow singing group, led to Powerful, which appeared on the 2025 SOCAN Polaris Song Prize long list.
