Rhiannon Giddens

Rhiannon Giddens is coming near you with a musical world where folk, blues, country, gospel and classical traditions bring overlooked stories into focus.

A singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist from North Carolina, she is especially known for her command of the banjo and fiddle. As a founding member of the Grammy Award-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops, Giddens helped highlight the banjo’s African roots and the essential contributions of Black musicians to American music history.

Her acclaimed catalogue includes Tomorrow Is My Turn, Freedom Highway and You’re the One, along with There Is No Other and They’re Calling Me Home, created with Francesco Turrisi. Fans may also recognize At the Purchaser’s Option, Julie, You’re the One and Yet to Be, songs that showcase her powerful storytelling, expressive voice and remarkable musical range.

Giddens is a two-time Grammy Award winner and a recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship. She also shared the Pulitzer Prize for Music with Michael Abels for the opera Omar. A founding member of Our Native Daughters and artistic director of the Silkroad Ensemble, she continues to connect research, history and original creation while restoring overlooked voices to the wider story of American music.
