Sa déclaration d’amour is a poetic lecture from La Bordée, conceived as a tribute to anthropologist, writer, and broadcaster Serge Bouchard, his work, and his ideas.
Written by Michel Nadeau and inspired by Bouchard’s work, it examines the history of French-speaking communities in the Americas. The text evokes young French women and men who arrived in the seventeenth century, their relationship with the land, and the emergence of the Canayens. Its account also considers people who travelled across the continent, founded cities and states, and formed relationships with Indigenous peoples.
The play explores the collective project of French-speaking communities in the Americas, the idea of a shared territory, and what current generations hope to preserve for those who follow. Serge Bouchard was a committed defender of Indigenous peoples, a central element of the reflection that informs this work. Sa déclaration d’amour approaches these questions with intelligence, humour, and passion, qualities associated with Bouchard’s thought. Michel Nadeau also directs the production, while Denis Bernard performs. The creative team additionally includes set and costume designer Marie-Renée Bourget Harvey, composer Josué Beaucage, and lighting designer Julie Basse.
