Sun Kil Moon is coming to a venue near you with an intimate blend of indie folk, slowcore, Americana, and alternative rock that has earned widespread critical acclaim. Created in 2002 by American singer-songwriter Mark Kozelek, Sun Kil Moon emerged following the dissolution of Red House Painters, one of the defining bands of the 1990s slowcore movement. Named after South Korean boxer Sung-Kil Moon, the project has become known for its deeply personal songwriting, understated arrangements, and Kozelek's unmistakable baritone voice. His literary approach to storytelling has established Sun Kil Moon as one of the most distinctive projects in contemporary independent music.
Sun Kil Moon debuted with Ghosts of the Great Highway in 2003, an album praised for its rich blend of folk, rock, and country influences. It was followed by Tiny Cities (2005), a collection of reinterpretations of songs by Modest Mouse, as well as acclaimed releases including April (2008), Admiral Fell Promises (2010), Among the Leaves (2012), and Benji (2014). Widely regarded as the project's defining work, Benji received extensive critical praise for its candid autobiographical storytelling and emotional depth. Kozelek has continued to expand the project's catalogue with releases such as Universal Themes (2015), Common as Light and Love Are Red Valleys of Blood (2017), and collaborative recordings with artists including Jesu, Parquet Courts, and Amoeba.
Over more than two decades, Sun Kil Moon has toured extensively throughout North America, Europe, and beyond. Mark Kozelek's work is celebrated for its conversational lyricism, emotional honesty, and ability to transform ordinary life experiences into compelling narratives. His influence extends far beyond slowcore, inspiring generations of indie folk and alternative musicians through a catalogue defined by authenticity, introspection, and artistic independence.
With its acclaimed recordings, deeply personal songwriting, and lasting impact on independent music, Sun Kil Moon continues to resonate with audiences around the world. Get your tickets now at Tickets.ca.
