Terre des Hommes is a co-production by Théâtre du Nordet and Théâtre de la Bacaisse, freely adapted from the work of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The creation revisits the autobiographical account of the French writer and aviator through his aircraft accident in the Sahara Desert while working for Aéropostale. The source text draws on Saint-Exupéry’s own experience as an airmail pilot. Faced with survival, Antoine returns to his memories and reflects tenderly on humanity. The story interweaves reality, mirages, constellations, oases, and an encounter with a curious fennec fox.
This multidisciplinary adaptation is directed by Nicola Boulanger, with a free adaptation and artistic direction by David Biron. It uses objects, puppets, shadows, video, and a musical and sound design to imagine Saint-Exupéry’s desert world. David Biron and Charlyne Roux created the set, costumes, props, and puppets, while Jean-Philippe Côté, Jeanne Murdock, and Mathieu Turcotte respectively handle lighting, video, and sound and music design. Pascale Bergeron Chiasson, David Biron, Miguel Fontaine, and Constance Gosselin make up the cast of this work about human fragility, imagination, and the drive toward life.
