The Charlatans UK is coming to a venue near you with a catalogue that has helped define British alternative rock for more than three decades. Formed in the West Midlands of England in 1988, the band originally featured Tim Burgess, Martin Blunt, Jon Brookes, Rob Collins, and Jon Day, who was soon replaced by Mark Collins. Although closely associated with the Madchester and Britpop eras, The Charlatans UK developed a distinctive musical identity by blending alternative rock, indie rock, psychedelic rock, baggy, and soul influences. Led by Tim Burgess' unmistakable vocals and the band's signature Hammond organ sound, the group has become one of Britain's longest-running and most respected rock acts.
The band's breakthrough came with the 1990 single The Only One I Know, followed by its debut album Some Friendly, which reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart. Over the years, The Charlatans UK released a remarkable string of successful albums, including Between 10th and 11th (1992), Up to Our Hips (1994), The Charlatans (1995), Tellin' Stories (1997), Us and Us Only (1999), Wonderland (2001), Up at the Lake (2004), Simpatico (2006), You Cross My Path (2008), Who We Touch (2010), Modern Nature (2015), and Different Days (2017). Their best-known songs include The Only One I Know, Weirdo, Just When You're Thinkin' Things Over, One to Another, North Country Boy, and Impossible. Throughout their career, the band has earned more than twenty UK charting singles and multiple Top 10 albums.
Despite the tragic losses of keyboardist Rob Collins in 1996 and drummer Jon Brookes in 2013, The Charlatans UK has continued recording and touring throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, and North America. Their ability to evolve while remaining true to their signature sound has allowed the band to remain relevant across several generations of British music. Today, The Charlatans UK is recognized as one of the defining groups of the UK's alternative rock scene, and its influence can still be heard in the work of countless contemporary artists.
With its acclaimed catalogue, enduring legacy, and decades of influential music, The Charlatans UK continues to captivate rock fans around the world. Get your tickets now at Tickets.ca.
