Formed in Cabestany, near Perpignan, France, the duo consists of Lionel and Marie Limiñana, who launched the project in 2009. Drawing inspiration from 1960s rock, film soundtracks, punk, psychedelia, and European cinema, The Limiñanas has created a musical identity that is both nostalgic and innovative. Over the years, the duo has earned international recognition as one of the most influential French acts in contemporary independent rock.

The band's discography began with its self-titled debut album in 2010 and has continued with acclaimed releases including Cristal Anis (2012), Costa Blanca (2013), Malamore (2016), Shadow People (2018), De Película (2021), a collaborative album with French electronic pioneer Laurent Garnier, and Faded (2025). Their music combines hypnotic guitar riffs, vintage keyboards, driving rhythms, and cinematic arrangements that evoke both classic garage rock and modern psychedelia. Popular tracks such as Down Underground, Russian Roulette, Dimanche, The Gift, and Je ne suis pas très drogue have helped define the duo's unmistakable sound, while their recordings have also appeared in films, television series, and advertising campaigns.

Throughout their career, The Limiñanas has collaborated with an impressive range of artists, including Anton Newcombe of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Peter Hook of Joy Division and New Order, Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream, Bertrand Belin, Emmanuelle Seigner, and Laurent Garnier. The duo has performed extensively across Europe and North America, appearing at major festivals and concert venues where its immersive live performances have been praised for their intensity and cinematic atmosphere.
