The Zolas

The Zolas are coming near you with indie pop rock rooted in British Columbia.

Led by singer and songwriter Zach Gray, the Canadian band has developed writing that combines memorable melodies, literary references, and a critical view of the contemporary world. Their career belongs to Canada’s indie scene, with an approach that brings alternative rock, pop, and Britpop influences into conversation.

The Zolas’ discography includes Tic Toc Tic, Ancient Mars, Swooner, and Come Back to Life. Swooner marked a breakthrough for the group and received a Juno Award nomination. Songs associated with that period include Ancient Mars, Knot in My Heart, and Swooner. Come Back to Life draws on Britpop, acid house, and trip hop. Its songs Yung Dicaprio, Miles Away, I Feel the Transition, Wreck Beach/Totem Park, and Bombs Away address subjects including economic inequality, artists’ access to cities, and the treatment of First Nations peoples in Canada. The Zolas have also released Another Dimension with Cadence Weapon and a cover of The Poppy Family’s Where Evil Grows. With thoughtful lyrics and ambitious music, the group remains a distinctive voice in Canadian indie rock.
