Adama Daou is coming to a venue near you with a musical performance that celebrates the traditions of Mali while embracing jazz, world music, and contemporary artistic collaboration. Originally from Mopti, Mali, Adama Daou is a percussionist, balafon player, composer, and educator. Trained at the National Institute of Arts in Bamako, he developed his mastery of the balafon, djembe, dumdum, and calabash through traditional ceremonies during his childhood. After spending approximately a decade performing throughout Europe, he settled in Montreal in 2011, where he has continued to build a career dedicated to sharing Manding musical traditions and collaborating with artists from a wide range of cultural backgrounds.
Throughout his career, Adama Daou has toured across Europe, Canada, and the United States while opening for internationally acclaimed artists including Manu Dibango, Guem, and Yuri Buenaventura. Alongside his concert performances, he regularly leads balafon, African percussion, and dance workshops in schools, festivals, and cultural institutions. His 2024 debut album, Siraba, features original compositions inspired by West African traditions while incorporating musical influences from South America and Europe. Tracks including Sanata, Bani, Foula, Océan, and Kuma Kan showcase his vision of creating meaningful dialogue between cultures through the expressive sound of the balafon.
Based in Montreal, Adama Daou has become an active contributor to Quebec's cultural landscape through collaborations with the Centre des musiciens du monde, the Festival International Nuits d'Afrique, and numerous educational and community organizations. His artistic philosophy is rooted in cultural exchange, artistic openness, and the transmission of traditional knowledge through both performance and education. By introducing audiences to the richness of Malian musical heritage while embracing creative collaboration, he continues to expand the reach of West African music in Canada and beyond.
