D'Angelo

D’Angelo is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer widely recognized as a pioneer of the neo-soul movement.

Born Michael Eugene Archer in Virginia in 1974, he was raised in a religious household and began playing music in church before developing a deep love for funk, gospel and hip-hop. He released his debut album Brown Sugar in 1995, earning critical acclaim for its bold fusion of vintage soul and modern R&B. His 2000 follow-up Voodoo became a landmark record, blending improvisational grooves, spirituality and raw emotion into a genre-defying masterpiece. Inspired by Prince, Marvin Gaye and J Dilla, D’Angelo is known for his deeply textured sound, lyrical honesty and elusive persona. After an extended hiatus, he returned in 2014 with Black Messiah, a politically charged and musically rich album that solidified his legacy. On stage, D’Angelo commands the room with magnetic presence, leading tight ensembles through sets that feel both spontaneous and transcendent.
