Ezra Collective is coming to a city near you as one of the leading groups behind the resurgence of contemporary British jazz. Formed in London in 2016, the quintet features Femi Koleoso, TJ Koleoso, Joe Armon-Jones, Ife Ogunjobi and James Mollison. The members first met through the Tomorrow’s Warriors youth music program, an organization that has played a significant role in developing generations of UK jazz musicians. Their sound blends jazz with Afrobeat, hip-hop, reggae, soul, funk and calypso, creating a distinctive style that has earned recognition well beyond the traditional jazz audience.
The band's debut album, You Can’t Steal My Joy, was released in 2019 and featured collaborations with artists including Jorja Smith and Loyle Carner. They followed it with Where I’m Meant To Be in 2022, an acclaimed release featuring guests such as Sampa the Great, Kojey Radical and Emeli Sandé. In 2023, the album made history by becoming the first jazz record ever to win the Mercury Prize, one of the United Kingdom's most prestigious music awards.
Ezra Collective continued its momentum with the release of Dance, No One’s Watching in 2024, further expanding its reputation for combining jazz traditions with contemporary global influences. Songs including Quest for Coin, Victory Dance, God Gave Me Feet for Dancing and Streets Is Calling showcase the group's wide ranging musical approach. In 2025, the band became the first jazz group to receive the Brit Award for Group of the Year, reinforcing its growing influence on the UK music landscape. Through its innovative fusion of genres and commitment to musical collaboration, Ezra Collective has become one of the defining names of modern British jazz.
