Gene is coming near you with the legacy of a key British indie rock band of the 1990s.

Formed in London in 1993, the quartet brings together singer Martin Rossiter, guitarist Steve Mason, bassist Kevin Miles, and drummer Matt James. Its songs combine literate lyrics, pop melodies, and influences that include the Smiths and the Faces. Gene became an important Britpop name while building an identity defined by Rossiter's songwriting and Mason's distinctive guitar work.

The debut album Olympian arrived in 1995 and reached number eight on the UK Albums Chart. The record earned a silver certification, while its title track became a UK top 20 single. Gene followed with To See the Lights, Drawn to the Deep End, Revelations, and Libertine, completing a catalogue of four studio albums. The group also scored 10 UK top 40 hits, including Olympian, Fighting Fit, and We Could Be Kings. After a lengthy break, the four members announced their reunion in 2025 to mark Olympian's 30th anniversary, then added dates in 2026. With enduring songs and a catalogue tied to British alternative music, Gene continues to hold a distinctive place in the genre.
