L7

L7 are coming near you with the legacy of a defining American punk, grunge, and alternative rock group.

Formed in Los Angeles in 1985 by Donita Sparks and Suzi Gardner, L7 quickly established a musical and feminist identity. The band's music combines punk energy with heavy guitar riffs. Its classic lineup brought together Sparks, Gardner, bassist Jennifer Finch, and drummer Demetra Plakas. After an initial run from 1985 to 2001, the band reunited in 2014 and reclaimed its place in the history of 1990s rock.

L7's third album, Bricks Are Heavy, arrived in 1992 and was co-produced with Butch Vig. It includes Pretend We're Dead, Wargasm, Shitlist, and Diet Pill. Pretend We're Dead reached number eight on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart and spent 13 weeks there. L7 also released Smell the Magic, Hungry for Stink, The Beauty Process: Triple Platinum, Slap-Happy, and Scatter the Rats in 2019, its first album in 20 years. Sarah Price's 2016 documentary L7: Pretend We're Dead traces the group's story and its role in the grunge movement. In 2025, L7 marked its 40th anniversary.
