Lido Pimienta

Lido Pimienta is coming to a venue near you with an innovative body of work that blends Afro-Colombian musical traditions, electronic music, experimental pop, and multidisciplinary art. Born in Barranquilla, Colombia, and based in Canada since her teenage years, Lido Pimienta is a singer-songwriter, producer, visual artist, and curator celebrated for her fearless creative vision. Her music explores themes including identity, migration, feminism, motherhood, Indigenous and Afro-descendant heritage, and contemporary social issues. By combining the traditional rhythms of Colombia's Caribbean coast with bold electronic production, she has developed a distinctive artistic voice that has earned international recognition across both the music and visual arts communities.

After releasing her debut album Color in 2010, Pimienta achieved widespread acclaim with La Papessa in 2016, which won the 2017 Polaris Music Prize, making her the first Afro-Indigenous Latin American artist to receive the honour. She followed with Miss Colombia in 2020, an album that received widespread critical praise and earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album. Her catalogue includes songs such as Nada, Eso Que Tu Haces, Para Transcribir (SOL), Resisto y Ya, Coming Thru, No Pude, and Te Quería. Throughout her recordings, she reimagines Colombian musical traditions through contemporary arrangements, layered vocal harmonies, and adventurous production that defies conventional genre boundaries.

Beyond her recording career, Lido Pimienta has composed for orchestras, collaborated with classical ensembles, and maintained an acclaimed visual arts practice. In 2022, she became the first woman of colour to receive a major commissioned score for the New York City Ballet with sky to hold. Her artwork has also been exhibited in museums, galleries, and international festivals. Through her multidisciplinary creativity, artistic leadership, and commitment to celebrating cultural heritage while embracing innovation, Lido Pimienta has established herself as one of Canada's most influential contemporary artists.
