Nutcracker Ballet (Ballet Ouest Montréal)

Casse-Noisette by Ballet Ouest Montréal carries on a major holiday tradition through a fresh interpretation of the classical ballet inspired by E. T. A. Hoffmann's tale and set to the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

First created in 1892, the work remains one of the best-known ballets in the international repertoire today. Ballet Ouest Montréal follows Clara on her journey through the Land of Snow and the Kingdom of Sweets, while incorporating digital imagery into its visual world.

Choreography and staging are by Claude Caron. Sets and multimedia are created by Tinkerbell Media and Jérôme DeLapierre, with costumes by Caroline Rivard, Marie St-Amour and Victoria Inkster. Lighting design is by Jonathan Morin. The production brings together more than 90 children and 30 professional artists, linking Ballet Ouest Montréal's work with young dancers from the Lanaudière region. Running two hours including an intermission, Casse-Noisette also offers family presentations adapted for younger children. This Quebec production highlights the enduring place of a work in which fantasy, dreams and Tchaikovsky's music continue to shape the cultural imagination.
