Opéra de Montréal

Opéra de Montréal has contributed to the growth and visibility of opera since its founding in 1980.

Deeply rooted in Quebec’s largest city, the company presents a repertoire that brings together major classics, original creations, and contemporary works connected to current social issues.

Its history includes more than 1,200 performances, 120 operas, 70 new productions, and 11 original creations, achievements that reflect its importance within Canada’s cultural landscape.

Founded in 1984, the Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal is a central part of its mission. This bilingual professional development program supports emerging singers, pianists, and stage directors as they build careers in the opera world.

The organization also works closely with the community through its Social Impact and Education department. Since 2004, the CoOpéra program has introduced hundreds of students to opera through creative projects each year.

By supporting local talent, developing the next generation of artists, and advancing inclusive community initiatives, Opéra de Montréal continues to help opera evolve while making the art form more accessible to diverse audiences.
