Troupe Vertigo is a Los Angeles contemporary circus company founded in 2009 by Artistic Director Aloysia Gavre and Technical Director Rex Camphuis.
Gavre previously worked with Cirque du Soleil, while Camphuis's background includes the Pickle Family Circus. The company brings together circus arts, classical dance and contemporary theatre in original works built around movement, storytelling and visual imagination.
Throughout its history, Troupe Vertigo has collaborated with more than 40 symphony orchestras across North America, including the San Francisco Symphony, Seattle Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Its first original production, Big Top for a New Generation, premiered at Los Angeles' Ford Amphitheatre in 2010. Other works include Nighthawks: A Film Noir Circus, inspired by American jazz, Edward Hopper's paintings and noir fiction, as well as TABLEAUX, a work exploring trust, collective effort and human connection. Troupe Vertigo is also home to Cirque School Los Angeles, an initiative devoted to circus arts education through classes, community outreach and pre-professional programs. Its body of work has helped connect contemporary circus practices with orchestral and theatre settings across North America.
