The Quebecer Frederic Niemeyer was a strong opposition against the world number one Roger Federer in the second round of the Rogers Cup at Uniprix Stadium in Montreal. But despite the quality of opposition, the Swiss has still found a way to win in two rounds with a score of 7-6, (6-3) & 6-4.
The Quebecer used his electrifying service well to keep the score close and even pushing the first round to a tie-break.
With 71% efficiency on his first service, Roger Federer was not flinching.
This was the last time that Niemeyer participates at the International of Canada; he will also retire this year. The Quebecer will be retiring with his head up high after giving a strong match against a player who many consider the best of all time.
"My opponent was a strong one," he said to the crowd following his honourable defeat by laughing about it
