First successful test for the new Canadiens

Thursday, September 17 2009 11:19PM
Montreal Canadiens 3 vs Florida Panthers 2
September 17, 2009 at the  Bell Center (Montreal)

Preseason game

Newcomers of the Montreal Canadiens have distinguished themselves in the
first preseason game at the Bell Center. Scott Gomez and Mike Cammalleri
each had a goal in the 3-2 victory for the Habs facing the Florida Panthers.

Defenseman Jaroslav Spacek, who also wearing on the Canadiens uniform for
the first time, earned an assist on the goal of Scott Gomez, just like
Cammalleri.

Matt D'Agostini was the author of the winning goal in the second period,
shortly after that of Mike Cammalleri.

The Panthers closed the gap, by pulling two consecutive goals in the third
period but could not get closer to victory.

Carey Price hasn’t been very busy, easily stopping all nine shots he faced.
Curtis Sanford, who was named to protect the net for the Habs in the second
half of the match for his part, squandered 2 of 21 shots in his direction.

A very satisfying start, therefore, for the Montreal Canadiens and their new
players, despite a disappointing sheet (no goals in 8 opportunities!) at the
power games.
