The darling child of France Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has successfully entered the International of Canada by winning his first match on the center court of the Uniprix Stadium this morning.
Tsonga was able to defeat German Rainer Schuettler in three sets 4-6, 6-3 & 6-4 to advance to the third round where he could face his fellow Frenchman Gilles Simon ( the 9th in the world) or the second-round opponent Alejandro Falla.
The victory did not go as smooth as planned for the 7th global player. His opponent, who is the 91st global player, pushed the patience of the Frenchman to a fiery end at certain times. Tsonga grumbled and launched his racket several times during the tight confrontation.
For his part, the Spanish Fernando Verdasco (11th in the world) beat his opponent the Argentinean Leonardo Mayer (61st in the world) in two identical sets of 6-1. Verdasco will face is the fifth global player Andy Roddick in the third round.
We also know the identity of the player who will face Novak Djokovic in the third round. It will be the Russian Mikhail Youzhny, 65th in the ATP rankings, who defeated his opponent John Isner second round in three sets 6-7, 6-1, 6-3
